Exploring Christianity

At St Cuthbert's, we want to give local people repeated chances

  • To hear the Christian message straight-forwardly explained,

  • To see people living as Christians, and

  • To think about what it would mean to follow Jesus for themselves

One of the reasons St Cuthbert's exists is so that guests and visitors can look in on our life together, hear Christians talk about their faith and ask any questions they have.  We'd love you to join us!

We offer lots of other ways you can explore more though! For example, you could...

Read one of the easier bits of the Bible.

Probably the best way to find out what Christianity is, is to read the Bible - God's words to us! Most people find the best place to start is one of the Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke or John (they are about three quarters of the way into the Bible).  The Gospels are basically Jesus’ life story.  We suggest starting there, and perhaps finding a Christian friend you can read with or go to with your questions. The church has a booklet, "A Better Hero", which gives a great introduction to Mark's gospel - perhaps give that a look.

If you'd like someone from church to read the Bible with, get in touch

Arrange to meet up with someone to talk.

If you have specific questions, or doubts, or challenges to Christianity, we're always happy to arrange an informal meet up between yourself and a member of the church. Mark (the church vicar) loves chatting about Jesus and is always available to chat over a coffee. Or if you'd like someone your age, or gender, to meet up with, we'll do our best to make that happen!

Get in touch with Mark through the Contact Us page, or grab him on a Sunday.

Come along to one of our events.

As a church family, we put on a variety of events and activities throughout the year. These are designed to be more accessible for people who wouldn't necessarily come to a Sunday service. For example, we host regular 'Sunday Fundays' in the church gardens, music evenings with food and live music from members of the congregation, and quiz nights.

Get in touch, have a look at our calendar or check our Facebook page to keep up to date with what's going on.

Join one of our courses.

We run short 'courses' to help make sense of the Christian faith. Whether you grew up going to church or know nothing about Christianity, over a series of weeks we look at who Jesus is, why he came, and why that is good news for everyone. Sessions are less like a class or church service, and more like a conversation. You can ask any questions you have, and you don't need to know anything about Christianity or the Bible.

Contact us for details on the next course, and watch the video below for more info.
