Most people in Britain haven’t had the chance to engage with the Christian message as adults. Whether you're new to the Christian faith, or are re-examining truths that you heard earlier in life , we'd love to help you.
At St Cuthbert's, we want to give local people repeated chances
TO HEAR the Christian message straight-forwardly explained,
TO SEE people living as Christians, and
TO THINK about what it would mean to follow Jesus
A great way to find out more about Christianity is to come along and be a 'fly on the wall' either on a Sunday or during the week. See how a group of Christians live together. Hear Christians talk about their faith - what they believe, and why they believe it. Hear how they connect what the Bible says with everyday life.
One of the reasons St Cuthbert's exists is so that guests and visitors can look in on our life together and ask any questions they have. We'd love you to join us!
Are you looking into the Christian faith?
Read one of the easier bits of the Bible.
Probably the best way to find out what Christianity is, is to read the Bible. Most people find the best place to start is one of the Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. (They are about three quarters of the way into the Bible). The Gospels are basically Jesus’ life story. We suggest starting there, and perhaps finding a Christian friend you can read with or go to with your questions.
Or arrange to meet up with someone to talk.
If you would like to meet with Mark (the vicar) or another Christian to look at the Bible informally, or discuss a particular issue or question, we're always happy to arrange that. Mark can be contacted through the church office (here), or on Sunday mornings.
Or come along to a group discussion.
We run short 'courses' to help make sense of the Christian faith, and to see how the Christian faith makes sense of life. Whether you grew up going to church, or know nothing about Jesus and Christianity, over a series of weeks we look at who Jesus is, why he came, and why that is good news for everyone.
Sessions are less like a class or church service, and more like a conversation. You can ask any questions you have, and you don't need to know anything about Christianity or the Bible. We read a short bit of Mark's gospel to see what Jesus said and did, we think about a few questions together, and then watch a short DVD presentation.
Courses run at different times of the week, and different times of the year. Contact us to find out when the next one is coming up.
...you could watch a short video. There's one here.
